The fragile quality of glass coincides with our society's perception of mental illness. It is incredibly difficult to approach this delicate subject or how to open up and talk about themselves. The forms, function, and their presentation attempt to initiate a conversation on the uncomfortable topics of anxiety, depression, and suicide.
A heavy mass of glass color was hand-mixed at 2000° F for over an hour. After cooling, the material was laboriously carved, ground, and polished. The aggressive shapes spawned from self-reflection, and conversations with people about their mental illness. My decision to hang these daggers from the gallery ceiling was to instill a sense of anxiety in the viewer.
